| TKO (a.k.a. Tim
O'Brien) is a former attorney from the United States now living and
working in Asia. At various times in the past, he's worked as a musician,
a tree trimmer, a bus driver, a teacher and a lawyer.
He first began drawing
editorial cartoons for the Daily Texan, the student newspaper at
the University of Texas, while still a student at UT law school.
He was forced to put up the drawing pen when the practice of law
(that jealous mistress) began to intrude. Finding the legal profession
an abysmal waste of life, he left, and wandered a bit around Asia.
Eventually washing up on the shores of Taiwan, he found the time
and inclination to again take up the pen.
After a stint as a staff
editorial cartoonist at a local English language daily, he went
freelance with his cartoons to focus on the Big Stuff; you know,
the stories above the fold
the ones editors are willing to
pay for.
He currently syndicates
his cartoons worldwide and is a lecturer at Chinese Culture University
in Taipei.
In addition to being
a fine mah-jongg player, he is generally acknowledged to be, pound-for-pound,
the finest cartoonist in the small fishing hamlet of Tamshui, Taiwan.
